Fixing damaged electical cord on K3?

That's my plan... using it in the Brute. Nothing would go off it it tripped a breaker or GFCI other than the washing machine.

Rob, when's the new plan? I'll be at my brother's tonight but it's right across the road so I can work with anything if today is what you want.

However, I do question the possible</em> cause. Maybe the type of silicone, or presence of water, or some other conductive medium (and yes I know pure water itself does not conduct, but PURE water is rarely encountered in the world also). Anyway, the reason I question the silicone is, we used this to insulate (potting compound) high voltage power supplies (36+ KV) in lasers I used to work with. We used the Dow-Corning brand, same variety used to seal tanks. -FWIW
There seems to be some debate on this and you are probably correct that it was probably impurities such as the mold inhibitors etc. I have just ran into a couple of times when silicone used in an electrical application has caused problems.

Another thing to think about is the fact that the national electrical code states that in order for a product to be used in an electrical application it has to be listed for that application under UL guidelines. Most household silicones are not listed for that application.

Unfortunately Barry I would not even repair it. The only way to correctly repair it would be to replace the whole cord. Like you stated in an epoxy filled housing like most aquarium pumps use its next to impossible to perform that task.

There's someone here (maybe not as "shady") selling a K3 for like $20. Seems like all these solutions add up to more than that and you still wouldn't have any peace of mind. Throw the thing away and hit the boards or ebay for something else to stir your water.

Heck, I know I could replace it cheap... I want to tinker with it.

I will find a better solution than Mighty Putty, but beyond that I make no promises.

Yeah, we are a tinkering lot, aren't we? :yay::lol2:
