For a tank measuring 36"x24"x20" (75 gallons), what would be the best for flow and placement?
The tank would also have a coast to coast over flow, with a something around 750GPH for a return.

My main thoughts are:

MP10 side/ MP40 back under overflow/ MP10 side

or

3 Mp10s

or

2 Mp10s on the sides

Open to suggestions, but I really like Vortechs......

Is the MP40 needed?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I would do scenario one...MP40 may be alot now but you may need the extra flow later as more SPS becomes present in your tank. I wouldn't run only on MP10's, they might not be enough flow down the road. At the very least you could always turn the MP40 down...and fyi OZ has some MP40w's at a killer price...

I would do 3 x mp10s. I have two on my 45 cube, and two would not be enough for a 75 from my experience.

Great info everyone, thanks for the advice. Who's got some MP10s? to sell or trade.

Personally I would use at least 1 MP40. The MP40 can be dialed WAY back, and IME, a bigger vortech that is dialed way back sounds much quieter/nicer than a small vortech that is cranked way up.

Plus it gives you room to upgrade.

That is a very good point:up:, but I think this will be my biggest reef tank for the next 20 years or so, unless the lotto works out. Plus the mp10s would be es models with warranties, where as the 40 I was looking at is and older version with no warranty.

Make sure the glass on your 75g isn't too thick for the mp10's...

Another great point:up:, Is it not 3/8" max?
