Hi, I am new here and we have set up a brand new 45 gallon tank. We have had it set up for 6 weeks now. My question is how often do I have to change the media in the Flu Val? We are learning as we go. Thanks for any and all answers.

Steve

Every fortnight

(That's every two weeks, when I'm not pretending to be British)

Seriously, every two weeks, unless you notice severally reduced flow, then sooner as needed.

Edit: OOh, and welcome to the community

All I have in the tank is a clean up crew and 3 fish and some coral, so would I still have to change the media every 2 weeks?

Yes!

Edit: When I run a canister filter, I buy two sets of filtermedia, which makes changing out the media a whole lot quicker. Just open it up, take out the dirty media, put in the clean media, close it up and turn it back on.... Then you clean the dirty media and you're through for two weeks.

some people will tell you that you shouldn't change out all your media at once, but it's not an issue if you have live rock in your main tank.

yes i run a can on my 75 and if you don't do it every 2-3 weeks your flow will start getting really bad and your nitrates will jump high and quickly

The problem is that the media will turn biological, and start producing nitrates
