I was looking at trying either Selcon or Garlic. Are they a waste of money? My fish are plenty healthy already would it be worth it to add anything to the food?

I use garlic for finicky eaters and new additions that don't start eating immediately I don't use then for normal feeding. I do use an vitamin additive tho.

So it's not really necessary for an everyday feeding?

I don't... But I'm not an expert by any stretch. But it's how I got my leopard wrasse to eat frozen foods

I don't have any finicky fish but I have some garlic drops I put in when I do cube food. They definitely seem to like it better and I figure if it makes them healthier then that's good even if they are already healthy. lol
Let me know if you wanna try it out. It's the least I could do for the water save. I also have some LRS Reef Frenzy and the fish go stupid over that too if you wanna try some out.

I will definitely take some LRF off your hands! I have been out for awhile and need to get some soon! I would love to test the garlic out. I am curious to see how the fish react to it.

<span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: Verdana">Selcon, PE Mysis, Hakari Mysis, Nutramar Ova, Live Black Worms have been sustaining my extremely finicky & difficult fish year after year.</span></span>
<span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: Verdana"></span></span>
<span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: Verdana">Selcon is a highly recommended product from the big gun breeders and Aquariums (they generally use the higher concentrated version, however).</span></span>

So it's basically for finicky fish. Is there much benefit to a tank of fish that eat like pigs?

If you are feeding a high quality food already there may not be need for added stuff. Garlic and Selcon have different purposes. Selcon is a vitamin and fatty acid supplement. Garlic can help entice finicky fish to eat. Some anecdotal evidence suggests garlic may boost the immune system. There is also evidence to suggest that extended garlic use in fish feed leads to liver damage.

Thanks for the info. I might try some Selcon then.

Yes, as it helps insure any fish has a nutrient rich diet which can help fight disease and <span style="color: black"><span style="font-family: Verdana">inadequate</span></span> consumption of food.

Ok thanks, I guess I didn't think of it in those terms.

I did not know that about the garlic, I use garlic guard regularly.

I use it on frozen food twice a day.

I give my frozen food a soft RO/DI rinse in cold water in 6 daily portions that will be divided by 2....

After I separate 6 rinsed portions into 12, I drop 2-3 drops of Selcon on each portion and return to freezer, or for next 24 hours, frig.

I'm curious about the garlic use related to liver damage. Do you remember where you obtained this information? I'd like to research this more.
