For the Chalice / Acan Haters :) (Pics)

RedEdge2k1 do I know you? Have you ever seen my tank? It is not the greatest tank in the world by far but I think it is pretty nice. Oh and I do have lots of colonies. If you want to see some come on over sometime....

Don't take offense, that's what the smiley face was/is for :)

No doubt chalices and acans are slow growers. Very slow. That's what I was poking fun at.

No problem. The beauty of this hobby is different peoples tastes. Some people like to fill their tank with GSP, Mushrooms, and ordinary looking zoanthids. Nothing wrong with that at all. Others like to mix in some nice colorful chalices, acans etc., and let them grow out. To each his own. :)

Seen Darrens tank several times , it is no frag tank.Only very nice stuff. Most everything is a colony not a frag. And I don't mean a 2 inch stick or 10 polyps of palys as a colony. His stuff has considerable size.Very nice.

Yes they look great, but why would I want to pay $300+ for something that will take 3-5 years to even be visible in my tank?

Well, when your tank is 300+ gallons, its your own fault. Get a 2.5 nano and the chalices will be HUGE.

That looks great. How long you had it?

I got the frag with 2 eyes? from Darren the end of July. He was kind enough to hold it for me for 2 weeks while I was traveling.

Guys, come on now, have a sense of humor.

Darren started this thread in response to the acans/chalices rant thread, not as a way to showcase his tank in general. As such, I wasn't calling his setup a frag tank, I was poking fun at his small/expensive chalice and acan frags (and knowing they will remain frags for quite a while). It's all in good taste and good fun.

Geez. Sometimes on these forums I feel like I'm watching an episode of The Hills.

I put this in the last Chalice thread. Nothing fancy, no designer name except we've dubbed it the Imagine Ocean LE Chalice ;)

I was given a frag about 4 years ago by somebody. We stuck it in the nano on the counter and let it grow until it got too big for the tank, then we moved it to the prop tank. Over the last couple of years we've taken a couple or three dozen frags off it, but we never take too much at any time.

When this picture was taken, Brian had given it a "haircut" on the left back portion, so it's a big jagged there from that.

It's probably about 8" across or so.

Ho hummm

I'm too impatient and too broke. lol

I wasn't a chalice fan until recently.....crazy wild color variations.

Can't recall who posted the blue and green acans (referred to as eye candy)....MAN very nice.

Here is a picture of one of my larger chalices, about 3" in diameter. Started out as a two eye frag about 9 months ago. Next pic is a 35 eye Bubblegum Monster chalice taking a poop....enjoy. That started out as a 1 eye frag about a year ago. And third is a really cool green and blue skin favia I found.

This is the thread that got me interested in acans, and I just picked up my first three frags this past weekend!! If I had a better camera, I'd post some pics, but you'll have to wait 'till I borrow my dad's.

I got three frags from Einstein Aquatics, and they're awesome! Great prices, too. I have pink frag with five heads, a purple frag with two heads, and a rainbow frag with three heads. (thanks Chris!) Adds a different dimension. I'll try to get some pics this weekend and post them up here!!

got the big chalice from warehouse aquarium. the other two little chalices are from world wide corals in orlando. purple with green eyes is lime in the sky, and forgot what the other small one is. big one is not named
