I'm sure you've all hit this road block a time or two. I'm in the process of building a 60g cube and it just dawned on me, what you guys and girls do when you leave for VACATION :dunce:??? One more paranoid question of the check list:D

Got to find yourself a good tank sitter that you trust. Having a controller hooked to a web server so you can check on your tank from the Internet is a great thing as well.

No substitute for having somebody check on it at least every other day.

Either hire a service or teach a trusted friend/neighbour or have a fellow club member to check on it.

Never hurts to have a service "on standby" in case your caretaker gets in over their head.

I travel every Monday thru Thursday and with solid equipment, a nice controller and a check up every other day or so, things will be fine

I have bonsai as well which need daily watering. I get a friend in the same apartment complex to come down whenever he's walking his dog. I leave gallons of RODI water and have in pour in one a day to my 2 big systems and top off to a sharp line in the nano. I never leave more than a week so it works out fairly well. He works for beer so it's cheap.

1. Controller.
2. ATO
3. Auto Feeder
4. Tank sitter
5. Do not do ANYTHING to your tank for the 24-48 period before the trip. This is when I screw something up.

Amen to #5. Yet that always seems to be the time that somebody tries out a new gadget... I could write a book...

Great advise everyone! However, I do miss those apartment days when beer could pay for rendered services LOL... I will look into a few of these automated controllers. However, being new to the game I forced to take babysteps...

Edit:

Don't have to tell me twice:up:

Edit: Jenn- Next time I'm in the Kennesaw area I'll be sure to stop in your store... Love finding new eyecandy stores!

Stuff like this is why I'm glad my brother is a reefer. He might even trust me to care for his tanks one day LOL

+1

Being that you're in the Buford area, have Ripped tide, Dylan, maintain it!

I e alway got some of those plastic Jell-O shot containers put the food for each day I want fed in them marked what day on each container. Make sure my ago container is full and have a friend check on it once a day like a dog and pay them for it with money or beer.
