ok so that i don't miss anything obvious.... give this a read over and see if there is something you'd do different.

setting up my SMALL frag tank to raise money around Christmas for a project.

Tank is only about 11" deep... and about a foot back to front... so yea... small...

I WANT growth out of this ... considering it IS a grow tank. It won't be in an obvious area of the home so it doesn't have to LOOK great...

With all the LED talk going on... should I go LED or should I GO 75 or 150 HQI on a tank this small.

B

Edit: Also have recessed sockets in the ceiling above where the tank will go... .so those PAR 38 lamps aren't OUT as far as I'm concerned. Just concerned about the effectiveness of LEDS. for growing SPS

one factor i didn't mention is that this tank WILL get some sun for 4 hours or so a day. it isn't a heat issue in this part of the home.

Edit: maybe closer to 2-3 hours

Edit: being new to the POSSIBILITY of led..a 120 optic gives a wider spread than say a 60 right? i mean.. the lower the degree the more focused it becomes?

Thanks

Correct... the lower the degree the more focused the light.

What are you trying to grow? SPS, LPS, Zoas (would also be a factor).

in a tank that shallow and that small, a 175 SE 10k MH would do some serious growth I would think. I couldnt speak to what DE you would want. Also, my experience with LED is far to young to impart any useful knowledge.
