So I've got a flat pack of PE mysis and silver sides that have some freezer burn. Is it still safe to feed it?

Thanks,
Colin

I had 3/4 of a pack of mysis that had freezer burn. My fish and nems had no problems eating it.I just finished the pack last week. Then went to publix got abag of the 4 dollar pack of frozen sea food. Squid, octopus, shrimp, and something else.My fish eat it like its going out of style.

Exactly what I do. I think the one component you didn't identify is mussels or scallops. Buy the stuff and grind it in my meat grinder. Freeze in flat packs. Poor Man's Rods Food.

Did you blend it up or what?

How long does frozen fish food usually stay "good"? I've got a pack of cyclopes that's probably over a year old. Is it still safe?

I don't really know. Has it stayed frozen? I would think so but I'd like to hear another opinion.

As long as it's frozen and not completely dried out from freezer burn, I use it.

I let it thaw a little added some water and put it in the blender.Works great.I ended up with 3 quart size freezer bags of food for $4.I saw it at publix when I went to buy a few shrimp to chop up and feed the fish.I took me about 2 seconds to decide and give it a shot.

That's it.I dont own a meat grinder but the blinder worked pretty good. I just didn't over do it.The bigger things my smaller fish dont eat my Melanurus wrasse gulps it up.

So I gave this a try. Did the seafood mix plus some garlic, nori, and a few pellets. Gonna let it set overnight and then try this.

Mark and Dave you did use the frozen stuff right?

Yup....the frozen stuff. I tried to buy some at my local Publix tonight and couldn't find any. I have one flat pack left. I'll have to try another Publix tomorrow.

I think I may give this a try and add the PE Mysis and Rods Food I have left. Maybe some nori, too.

Frozen yes .I also bought some minced garlic juice and added it as well. You would think its crack when the fish smell it.
