So i woke up today to a dead Green Apple Monti Cap. I tested the water Sunday afternoon and i don't think it was the water as my orange Monti cap is fine. Here's the params anyway. All tests done with Seachem except Ammo done with Red Sea. 5 gallon W/C done Sunday morning with Seachem salt. Tank is a 55g:

Ammo: 0
Nitrite: 0
Nitrate: Less than 0
Phos: Less than 0
Alk: 4.5
Calcium: 375
Mag: 1275 (Dosing to bring it up)

The Monti was about 8" in Dia and has been in the tank about 6 months. It almost doubled it's size since I've had it. The only thing i can think of is that a large (7+ heads) frogspawn that was about 6" to 8" away from the Monti hit it with some sweepers last night. I was really surprised because the Monti had been doing so well. Does this sound plausible? I'm out of ideas as to what else it could have been. I inspected the skeleton and saw no signs of pests on it or the Orange monti that is doing well. If anyone has any other ideas let me know. I just kind of bummed about the whole thing.

Almost forgot. No other changes have been made to the tank as far as equipment or additives and the lights (4x54w t5) are only 4 months old.

Looks like i may need to frag some frogspawn and/or do some different aquascaping tonight. I like the frogspawn but when it starts taking out its neighbors its time for a change.

I know that all corals do not "act" the same but I have a very large frogspawn about 1 inch away from a large Setosa and it has never bothered it. I would look for other reasons. In the pic below you can see the edge of the frogspawn to the right of the setosa.

My massive forgspawn owned any coral it touched. I had to trim my sps back so as to avoid interaction.

Yes I think the key is if it touched the cap. My frogspawn will sting my hand if I mess with it. I have never seen mine extend any sweepers though. If the cap was several inches away I would not think that it got it.
