Hey everyone,
What are yalls thoughts on frozen vs dried mysis shrimp?
I can see the benefits to both like having them dried lets them be shelf stable and doesn’t have as much stuff to raise you nutrients in your tank with downside being not as nutritious and you have to soak them before.
Benefits to frozen being that they have more nutrients that are good for the fish and coral but you have to store them in the freezer, dethaw them before, and can dirty up your water without rinsing.
What do yall use and what are yalls thoughts?

I’ve never tried dried mysis, but I haven’t noticed any issue with frozen. It dethaws quickly so I wouldn’t see that as a con to using. Curious what the pro’s are to using dried though

I personally solely use dried now. I do all my food from scratch minus some pellets in an auto feeder while I am away. However, I usually rehydrate in large batches and freeze. It is just cheaper and I get to replace the water and whatever else is mixed in with supplements and clean water if I need more moisture. I have tiny custom fortified calanus cubes for my smaller active fish such as anthias I can feed throughout the day without over feeding. Then of course a "reef chili" type frozen food from mostly either fresh or dried food similar to what you would find in the BRS guide on making your own food.

Only downside, other than slightly more work, is that the freeze dried tends to break down if you mess with it much. Dried mysis especially tends to break up into tiny pieces instead of whole mysis floating around like you would get with frozen. This may or may not be a good thing? I actually tend to prefer it because it allows smaller fish to easily eat it as well.

I use stickly Liqiud and frozen food for my fishes and powder food for corals. I find it easier to control nutrients and much more benefits from feeding unprocessed food. Mysis being one of the staple diet and get fed always in my mixes.
