Fuge setup question

I'm currently setting up a new tank and would really like to get this right the first time so I don't have to revisit...

I recently bought an acrylic sump (125g) from my LFS, and after getting it home I think some minor modding might be in order (see attached pic).

1) Can/should I raise the baffle in the middle to raise the water level for macro? I assume it would be a bad move to just keep a higher level of water without raising the baffle (water level would be consistant throughout).

2) I'm planning on my sand/macro being in the middle section, but its very small. Can I cut the baffle between the input side and the middle section to open up more room? I think that would be easier than moving the short middle baffle to the output/pump side, right?

3) If I put LR rubble in the fuge, should it be in the macro area or in the pump area (for throwing pods back in the tank)?

4) I plan on putting my heater in the pump area, but it seems like a very large waste of space to me.

Could I get some input/suggestions from you guys? Thanks!!!

Just have a piece cut the length you want and glue/bond it to the side of the existing one. It will increase the noise level a little with the water falling that distance.
Heater will be fine in the return area

Thanks guys! I took my sump to John @ All Things Aquatic and I think I'm going to get him to help me mod this thing right. A little hacking, a little glueing and I should be all set.

Like I said, I hate cutting up a new sump but if thats what needs done we can hook it up

Thanks for the input, guys. After looking it over with John, I think we've decided to mod it similar to below. Basically removing the small baffle, removing the sponge, and adding two new baffles to create a fuge space in the middle.

The water level indicated won't be actual, I think we're only planning on it being 2/3 at the highest level. Thanks for the feedback, everyone!

I'm glad that part is over, I got the baffles out without any damage to the main tank. I made an executive decision and decided to mod it further. I removed an additional baffle and will just redo the whole back end at the return pump. Unfortunately it will probably be tomorrow before it is ready but like I said if its got my name on it, It will be right
