Im fustrated with my whole tank. Either I always have some sort of RTN on my SPS like BN that I can never seem to keep over of certian size. A couple of fish dying here and there like chromis or shrimps My lobster just went missing. Im always testing water cant seem to get anything regulated. Im almost ready to go with just fish for now if things keep it up. Or possibly sell everything just angry with my tank in general. AHHHHHWWWWW thanks for listening.

My baseball sized BN RTN all the way out about a week ago now my sunsetmillie started to RTN today which now I have fraged up into three pieces that look like mini's in my 180. A shrimp and lobster dissapeared this week. On the plus side my hair algae has started to subside and go away. Im dosing vodka to help lower the nitrates but the RTN started before that. Plus I have been working everyday almost and never get to see the tank just late night parameter testing, and topping off the top off water. My unicorn tang hangs out with me at night he's super cool, keeping me smiling.

I have found that alk. plays the biggest role in RTN for me with my sps's. Try to keep that in check the most. Also don't try to correct any thing all at once. Slow is the name of the game, but I'm sure you know that. In my early days I chased numbers, low today= fixed, high tomorrow= fixed, low the day after..........

I will include some pics of the unicorn in a bit. Finding the lobster is just a small drop in the bucket.

I have a calcium reactor a small one but pumps alk and calcium like crazy. I do a very small amount of Co2 and drip into the sump from the reactor. I just tested the alk and calcium and they where at

calcium 700
alk- 12
PH 8.4
Nitrate 20
salinity 1.024
mag 1350

I just shutdown the reactortoday for a few days to helplower the alk a little. Im going to try and retune the reactor in the next couple of days when I put it back online. Plus I just lowered the lights to about 4" above the water overdriven which Im running two small light cycles each day.

this may be too simple, but how is your temp running? With the cold weather the past couple of weeks, I noticed that the temp in my 65 was dropping. I had to swap out one of the heaters I use in there. I lost a few colonies of montipora when my temp dropped after a GFCI tripped. Just some thing else to check off the list.

My temp is 79-80 on point daily, I also have 2 heaters one is set for 77 and one for 79 degrees. The first one is a back up in case one goes out or the temp gets too low. Good thought.

Thanks man. No snow storm yet but the reactor is off for the next couple of days. Im going to retest the calcium and double check it just in case Im wronge.

Sometimes I feel like just starting over from square one with nothing in the tank.

Ya I feel your pain. I also want some larger pieces of rock Im just not happy with it right now. I think Im going to make some DIY rock next month but do huge pieces with tons of hole and caves. Something thats goes from one side to the other and locks together using pvc. Ive been thinking about some good ideas and have read up on it for a while now.

Its always something it seems.. Had a lawnmower blenny starve in my tank because there was 0 algae.. Now I have tons starting to grow.. Hair algae on the back wall and overflows.. Snails got hacked up for shells and now the sand is nasty.. Bought a lawnmower and diamond goby yesterday.. Lawnmower is going to town but the diamond tried to jump a few times. Barry and Cliff came by last night and we got it covered with some screen until I get the mesh to make tops from Dave.. Problem solved? Nope.. Now that rotten Strawberry psuedo is harrasing the diamond, keeping it in one place so it cant/wont clean the sand.. Always something..

On tóp of that I still have a nice size population of those coral munching starfish and now stinging hydroids..

Don't say I didn't warn you about my Strawberry's personality first... ;)

Ans, have you bought the screen frame yet? I bought some tonight, which isn't enough for yours too BUT I have enough spline, so you just need the frame and four corners.

I was going to ride out today and snag some but I dilly dallied until it was late and never made it out there.. might ride out there tomorrow evening..

All my sps corals were closed up and rtning, once I replaced my lightbulbs they opened up and were fine. All I could figure is that the PAR dropped consirderably and upset them. How old are your light bulbs?

All my bulbs are around two months old. Bought new ones when I redid my lighting.
