Why does my Gbta not "bubble"?It always opens up great but the tentacles never seem to resemble bubbles, like the pictures I have seen.
all water parameters are good:
Temp is always 78-79
ammonia 0
salinity 1.026
ph 9
calcium 480
nitrates and nitrites both 0
phosphates 0
I don't have a way to check mag,yet
I do bi-weekly water changes at 20 gallons each,the tank they are in is 55 gallons.it is lighted by 2 t5's(actinic) and 2 250 watt 20k halides.
Flow is provided by 2 mj600 with mods,1set at each end of tank.i am also running a 20 gallon sump with bio balls, gfo in reactor and an insump skimmer, return pump and a hob penguin filter that I use for carbon
the only other livestock in the tank is a clown goby, watchman goby and shrimp pair and a few corals
I have had it for about 3 months, bought 1.Had it for about 1 month and then it split into three.all 3 are doing fine, opening good, healed up good

Some just don't. I've never had one bubble in my tank. I think I have more flow than most tanks I see at LFS, so perhaps that's why. It doesn't mean that you have an unhealthy animal just because it doesn't bubble though! I wouldn't worry unless you notice it starting to shrink.

Everything I have heard/read says no one knows why they bubble or why they don't. I have a RBTA that used to bubble up great until it split. Once it split it stopped bubbling. Now and again I will see a few bubble up but not a lot and not for long.

Some will develop bubbles and some will not. Do you feed her? Iodine enriched treat may be, but unsure this might help on bubble tips

i had one that didnt bubble under 175w metal halides, but then bubbled completely under t5's (2 10k and 2 actinic).

There are probably things you could try to influence it, but you'll likely not be successful; it really depends on their "mood" I suppose. Some days mine are full bubble, some days they are almost long tentacle.
