Getting back in the water after 30 years

More than likely whoever made this sump had the return pump in the larger end area and the filtration- socks or something- in the smaller section. Just guessing here. You might really be better off using a 40 gallon breeder as a sump, or asking Tony to make you a sump to fit your cabinet as that would be so much easier in the long run. I too returned to the hobby after decades and spent a small fortune making lots and lots of small mistakes by not going with what I needed to start with :).

You need to first figure out your return pump- as it is in the last section. So, where does it fit? That will help you in figuring out your flow and direction.
For some reason the one way I could see it working is if the return is in the center section. Just because of the heights of the baffles.

I really cannot tell how this sump is supposed to work. The baffles and the drilled holes are throwing me off. I try to imagine water going into either one of the outside compartments and where the water would flow but then get all discombobulated. Lol
Well that's scary! Lol. I sent Tony a PM about a custom sump.

Much better design!

You can see the way the flow was setup on the other sump from the pics you posted on the 1st page. Fairly odd setup by today's standards. Based on the dimensions it looks to be about 20 gallons. Could be useful as a refugium or something down the line.
