Hi im not really a new member, but ive been out of the hobby for a while now getting back into it. i'm just about ready to buy a 90G this weekend had few a question about lighting, whats the best type of lighting now adays? before i got out i was using T5 i believe does everyone use led now? whats a good fixture someone can recommend to me trying to spend under 600 or less thanks for all the answers in advance

also about the flow in the tank would 2x mp10's be enough flow for a 90g reef or would something else be better?

T5 is still fine and is probably the best bang for the buck. The fixture I'm including with the system is an 8 bulb Nova Extreme. Some of the bulbs weren't working but I'm not sure if it's the ballast or bulbs. We can take a look at it Saturday when you get here. It's a great fixture!!!

do you have any recommendations?

I would pick up 2 WP25s. They are controllable like the MPs, directional un-like the MPs and a quarter of the price...

On your lighting.. not only do ppl still use T5, but some of us CHOOSE them over LED :) just saying'
T5s are a great option

I choose t5 over led. Heck there are stll pros to a halide. Leds have some cons to the heir use too. It just depends on what set of pros and cons work best for your long term goals,

for what it's worth if you aim those returns that low you might draw a reverse siphon in the case of power loss
.. and welcome back!

yea thanks i was just using it as an example i havent even set up my tank yet just go it today

BAHAHAHA. I'm reading through this thread and go, "Wow! His tank looks just like mine."

pause

"Oh, that is</em> mine." :)

According to Ecotech's calculator, two MP10s running at 100% are just enough for SPS. They did well for me. I supplemented a little bit by making sure the return pump was very powerful.

And if you're fairly comfortable with basic wiring, I have two outstanding LED units that are plenty strong enough for SPS in a 90 for $500 total. They're great DIY units, but they are</em> DIY, so you have to have a basic (very basic) idea of what's what.
