GFIC question

The neutral can be hot if it is shared with 2 hots and one is still on. if you separate then whites in a box the "return" is looking for somewhere to go,(you broke it's path to the panel), if you are grounded and touch it, it will go through you. Hope that doesn't make things foggier.

here is the GFCI ext cord some of you are looking for...good option if you dont want to mess with the wiring but they do trip easier than a standard GFCI outlet.....

you can get the 3 outlet cord at HD for about $20.

The other thing I'd consider adding to a tank is a battery back up.....plug your heater and pumps into that and your set. You can get a 120min back up for about $80-$100. If i ever set up a monster tank I'd seriously consider having a backup generator that kicks on when the power goes out and powers the whole set up.....especially here in miami.

Thank you! I knew they had this stuff...

I already installed the in-wall GFIC on all of the outlets for aquarium use. I don't like it when everythings goes out due to a electric leak. And it'll be very hard to tell which is leaking with 394829384 plugs linked to a single GFIC that tripped.

Thanks for the info guys.
