well I'm down in the keys for the honeymoon and I've been calling all over to see about getting certified for open water, although its mini lobster season thats kinda cripled my hunt for getting certified down here. One place I've called tho offers a "resort package" which is basically a hit and run course with a PADI instructor. We go over the basics of diving, hit the pool then go out for 2 dives :) And best part is this its credited towards open water certification, so I could finish that up at a later point. Ill get me one of those underwater cheapo cameras and see what I can snap for you guys.

That is only good for 6 months I believe.....not sure how it works though? You would still need to take the full class though? I would check with a local dive shop around here to see the process...

The cheapo dive camera....don't waste your time.....and if you do!!!! MAKE sure you are at Least 12" from the object or closer.....or else you will get nothing worth looking at..and the flash needs to be ON....

The resort dives only take you to a maximum of 40 feet though...if they try to take you deeper be wary..

Also, I have seen those divers not doing safety stops...DO them!!! at 40 feet...you need to do a 3 minute stop at 15 - 20 feet and the last 15 feet is the largest pressure change..That is where you go the SLOWEST!!! It should take you over a minute or 2 to do the last 15 feet......

Don't want any Bends on your honeymoon!!! That last 10 feet is where the most accidents happen by get a hit of the bends.

Just looking out for ya!! SLOW!!!!

Keys diving is best off Key Largo from what some of our friends found out. We did Key West and it sucked. There was a great place in Key Largo that will take you out all day for a good price. I can dig up the info if you like.

awesome todd, thanks I'll keep that in mind! I;m not too sure where were diving, but Im staying on Islamorada and there is a dive shop right down the street on mile marker 90.5.....cant remember the name at this point but I'll get it for you guys once I find it. Never mind, found it, its called florida keys dive center. Should be fun...it s truly ashame that this mini lobster thing messed up my plans to get fully certified, but hey at least I'll have some of it taken care of.

MM 88.5 in the Coconut Cove resort there is a shop called Ocean Quest tell Sonny (the bald guy with the big smile) Chris sent you.
I'll be there later today diving with them Fri-Sun. We can get you an instructor if you still wish to do so.

thanks mafia but I'm only going to be here till friday :( I talked with the guys at the shop and they said that the dives that I do will count towards the cert. but its really up to the instructor that I have if they want to count it towards the cert. I've tossed that idea around in my head and my wife still thought it would be cool for me to do this, so I'm gonna do it. Itll be fun to get out there and dive, so hopefully this will count towards the cert and later on get fully cert. so I can dive with some of you guys :) Thanks for all the info guys.

Cool, Well we're diving the Eagle with a small group in the morning but if your plans fall through come find me and I'll get you in some water.

alright all, I'm back and man was diving an great exp!!!! We wemt to Pilar coral and Petes reef. Deepest dive I did was 25' cuz well, thats as deep as it got, lol. We did 2 dives, first one was 55 minutes long and the other was 50. Went down with 3K lbs of air and the first dive I came up with 900lbs and the second I has1200 left...breathing was a lot more relaxed on the second one. I have a few pics to share, I'll have more once I get some pics from my dive buddy, the second stop which was petes reef had a lot more coral and goodies to look at, but unfortunately my camera was out of pics when i got there.....so those will be posted as soon as I recieve them. We did run into 2 nurse sharks at petes reef, the first one was about 5' long and the other I'ld say about 3.4-4' There were lots of soft corals with sps mixed in. Parot fish were gigantic!!!!! along with some very large tangs, yellow tail snapper as far as the eye could see......mmmmmm so yummy! The pics sux, but what do you expect from an cheapo underwater camera....all in all it was great and cant wait to get some money saved up so I can finish my certification and go diving with some of you guys!

Well done......don't stop now!!! you already spent $ to do that..finish it out, remember its only good for 6 months at best, then ya gotta start all over.

But its the coolest thing in the world!! Welcome to the ranks!
