i've heard through the grapevine that petco is having their $1/gallon sale again this week. i was going to pick up a tank to start my reef. im torn between a 20H, 20L, and a 29g. i currently have a 20L which i could use for a sump for a 20L or 29g or if i go with a 20H i would try to trade for another 20H for sump. i like the shape of the 20l, it gives a lot of options for rockscape, the 29g is the same footprint but higher, not sure if i like the cluttered look of a lot of rock to fill a 29g. what do you guys prefer?

The 40 breeder is the best IMO for a small reef. Your only talking about a few bucks on the price difference. 40 breeders make a sweet reef.

+1 I did the petco deal and got the 55 and i somewhat regret it. It is really hard to aquascape. Unless you like the rockwall. The 40 breeder has a lot of room front to back. Good for scaping.

i would go with a 40b but i only have about 35" of room :D its the last available corner in my apartment for a tank ;)

:D

I MAY Be wrong.. but i dont think the 40 breeder is part of the sale. It only counts for the "standard" sizes......

perhaps i am mistaken though.

All tanks up to 55 gal. I would like to know if they in fact are doing this again so soon.

It's on and 40b is included.

If I could have my first tank over again, I would also say go with the 40b. It gives you a alot of room for aquascape, and not too large, you don't have to have super expensive lighting fixtures, yet it gives you enough water volume to to achieve stability in water quality!

OK I am going shopping, so easy to make a standard tank into a reptile habitat and 40s for sumps.

Go with the 29, it is harder to aquascape because it is not very deep, but not impossible. I have always managed to do some wonderful aquascaping in a 29, just takes some thinking. The 29 will give you more height so you can do taller interesting structures. Just a little hint, you wouldn't believe some of the nice scapes you can build with dry rock and some pond foam. Coat pond foam with 2 part epoxy and very fine sand, blends in perfectly, and very strong, if I say so myself. Good luck.
