I have recently joined the ARC and am glad to be getting back into the hobby. I researched all the cool, new stuff out there and decided on the Biocube 14. I wanted to buy it from Sam at Aquabuys, but he is currenly out of stock. I bought it online for a sweet deal.

I just got it today and am currently water testing the tank. I removed the bio-balls and all looks good. I am looking at ordering my liverock and am looking at the nano live rock package from Foster and Smith. http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1949">http://www.liveaquaria.com/product/prod_Display.cfm?pCatId=1949</a>
I really like the look of the Lalo, but they only sell it in the 30 lb package. Does anyone have experience with F&S and/or their nano live rock package?

As to my sand, whick live sand would be best? Which is best and looks the best? I want to get off to a good start.

What salt should I use?

I would like to buy these things at ARC sponsors, if at all possible.

Thanks to all for their help and helping me resume the SW lifestyle!:yay:

Best place to get salt right now:

Sand is preference more than anything. I would suggest not getting live sand. All sand becomes live eventually and it is cheaper to just buy a bag of sand then ask someone to give you a cup of established sand to kick start it.

Live rock can be had for great prices by our sponsers. Its Fishy Business, Cap Bay, Marine Fish and Optimum Aquarium just to name a few have good prices and you can pick out your pieces.

or you could print out the price of petsmart online and take it into the store and they price match their salt, its like 31.99, thats if you dont want to wait for it to get shipped ;)

I may try that sometime soon. Cheaper than getting shipped and PetSmart is right around the corner. That deserves a rep point. Well it won't allow me to rep you until I give some to other people. Guess you have been too smart for one day.

Salt use whatever you want. Morton's comes to mine j/k. I know alot use Instant ocean and reef crystals. I've also heard people complaining that it takes to long to dissolve. I've had no problems with reef crystals I usually have it mixing with a power head for a day or two anyways with a heater. to get it to the right temp and <span style="font-size: 1-1px;">aeration.

Sand I think is another personal preference. I got Arga-alive(sp?). The bagged wet sand. I didn't get the superfine stuff. Some people like the look of black sand. Some like the mix of black and white.

Thanks for the advice. Reef Crystals will be the salt.

I saw some nice large live rock at CBA. Do the places like CBA sell nano rock sizes for less $?

Should I use non-silica sand from HomeDepot, like discussed in another thread? Is that really as good as any other sand?

Thanks again for the help.

I think CBA and places sell by the pound. Good news is you can pick what you want for about 6 bucks a pound and it is already cured.

As for sand if you can find the right stuff, yes. However a single bag 20lb-ish bag will probably be all you need and you can pick that up at drsfostersmith for $20-$30. You can even pick from a variety of colors and sizes.

Petsmart matches prices of their website for me all the time I have even pulled up their site on my cell phone and had them match the price. It doesnt make sense why their prices on the website and store are so different...but you can get a bunch of supplies cheap there.

I went to Aquabuys today and Sam too good care of me. I went with 20 lbs of Oodelite (sp.) Live Sand and Reef Crystals and accessories. Sam is definately knowledgeable and nice, also.

I PMed Kayla to see if CBA has any nice nano sized LR in stock. Hopefully they will have some goodlooking LR that I can pick through this weekend. If CBA doesn't have anything great right now, has anyone seen any good, small LR around ATL lately?

Thanks again for your help.

Danny
