got stabbed by my pencil urchin

I was pulling my pencil urchin out and pricked my finger on it. the small spot on my finger is black now. should i be worried?

How did you manage that? Was it a diadema urchin or longspine?

If so, I wouldnt be so cavalier. Wash it well, disinfect it, and make sure there is no spine within. Ive seen some serious problem and reactions from them.

Dip your hand in warm water for the pain. Is it a black spot or A little hematoma ( blood collection).. If it's a black spot you may still have some of the spine left in your finger. Difficult to get out as some species have barbs. If your tetanus shot isn't up to date I'd look into getting one. If you start to develop redness, or streaking of redness up into your hand and arm go see your doc asap. If your a diabetic have it looked at tomorrow and get placed on antibiotics..

I stepped on a sea urchin at the beach and one of its spears went through my big toe knuckle. I played EMT and pulled that rascal out, poured stuff on it and I'm still here.

I've been stung by my long spine urchin many times, I finally decided to sell him. The last time that I got stung it hurt SO bad! Mine also left a black spot, I soaked it in warm water for an hour. I also had someone try to dig the spine out, only to find out that there are times that the black spot is only the dye from the spine. I can empathize with the pain, mine definitely brought me to my knees.
I would take the advise of getting your tetanus shot up to date if it isn't already. I paid a visit to the doctor to make sure I didn't have any reaction.

I went to play basketball and now the spot is gone. Hmmmmm. Maybe I sweated it out?
