Sr. Water Keeper, just a question, how often you change your bulbs? Do you actually go for the par readings or just by noticing the spectrum of it? Then in your other thread you mentioned, you reduced the cycle some, how often you reduced or you reduced to acclimate corals to the different season? Meaning shorter days and longer nights...

Still debating on my mind whether go T5's vs led's or a junction of both of them

Thank a lot men!

haha Sr. water keeper,

PERSONALLY, I've moved to a one year change out of my lamps. Some even go 18 months, but I'm just more comfortable with a year.
For a few years I even did every 6 months, but I've found the guts to wait it out a few times for a year and everything is fine, so a year it is (for me).

I didn't really intentionally reduce the cycle. it was an error with my ReefKeeper module that reduced the cycle down to about 6 hours for 4 days. No big deal really, so I doubt it had anything to do with any recent growth...

IMO T5 over LED, but thats just me ( I'm old fashioned geezer I guess).

Ahh that explains better that cycle! Thanks! Helps a lot!
Sr Water Keeper reads under your screen name haha!
Remember me an adagio someone's said, " I keep water, not coral nor fish..."

thats what we do.. keep water.. the rest is easy if the water is right haha

that will grow anything man, as long as you don't fry it first haha

Honestly I'm not all that up on KZ coloration or PAR values... if you're running 660s you should be fine as long as you're not doing lots of actinic or something weird. I've used the New Gen and the Coral Light, as well as the blue one... all appear to be great lamps.

the fiji purple is pink, but carries good par from what I've read, and brings out some nice colors.

I'm going to try the following in my 7 lamp fixture with VUE660 ballasts

KZ-54W-SB 54w Coral Light Super Blue T5 460nm 3
KZ-54W-14K 54W Coral Light New Generation 14K 2
KZ-54W-50 54W Korallen-zucht T5 Coral Light - 50% Blue 50% White 1
KZ-54W-FIJI 54W Korallen-Zucht T5 Fiji Purple Special Red/Blue 1

Found this when I was researching bulbs. I don't know much more behind it, ie. stock ballast or vue 660. But Grim Reefer was one of the highest regarded T5 people around.

**Note : quoted by Grimm - "ATI juiced up their Blue Plus a little and I no longer recommend UVL lamps. Other than that I really don't know. I don't even run T5's any more so I wont be spending any more of my money on test subjects." ( so ATI may be a bit higher since the tests )

Once my new bulbs come in, I'll be running:

Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
GE 6500
Blue Plus
KZ New Generation
Blue Plus
Blue Plus

Looking forward to seeing that. I would have had my bulbs already, but the ups guy clearly used the box during pole vaulting competition :boo:

That will give you a nice look . That GE is a VERY good daylight lamp that gets overlooked because of the "name"

If you end up wanting a little bit darker blue you can always put a purple + (at) in there for a Blue +. As long as you're running a good fixture with good ballasts you won't loose meaningful PAR

SHOULD LOOK AWESOME bro!

Keep in mind that these are not absolute PAR values. What I mean is that Grim did this survey with a basic TEK fixture under "normal conditions". These PAR values COULD waiver GREATLY with different fixtures / ballasts.

The purpose of the survey was to give more or less a ratio of PAR values between the lamps :)

STILL yea..... I'm glad thats there. I've used it as a reference for a long time. I DO wish there was more information on the KZ though.

Thanks man, definitely excited :) I really like the look right now and I'm running:

Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus
BluePlus
Coral Plus
Blue Plus
Purple Plus
Blue Plus

All ATI bulbs and they are in the dimmable 8x54w ATI PowerModule :)

For running halides pretty much since I started in this hobby, I didn't think I'd like the look of T5's....I was wrong....really happy with the switch so far. Guess we'll see how the corals like it :) Thanks again for your advice!

T5 is still king IMO. I'm going to start our own T5 QA thread!

THAT IS A FANTASTIC FIXTURE, that will preform VERY WELL for a long time. I"M SO JEALOUS! I wish I had a 10 lamp one, but I can't afford it. well, i choose to buy other things in other hobbies with the money I guess haha.

Lol, yeah a 10 lamp would be pretty boss...but imo, your tank looks amazing as is!

I'm thinking if I had a few lamps that i didn't NEED, I could fudge and get some really low par actinicesque colors

with your PM.... does the perceived spectrum change as you dim the light? or does it just get dimmer?

With the naked eye, it seems to hold spectrum....just dims the light. It's a fidgety dim by hand. If i had a controller to hook up to the leads on the box I'm sure it would do a better job. However, I really could care less about the dim....I just got a great deal on it and thought it would be a plus to have. Besides having fun dimming the light for a few minutes, I have yet to turn it off 100%, lol.
