Green water?

I'm 'usually' the one to change his water, but i've been taking my hands off of his tank lately so the water turned green, i suppose..
you can't really tell, or at least i can't, but he rants about that all day long when he's with me lol
so we decided to turned off the light for his tank for couple of days, but is there any other solution to cease the cause?
help?

if it makes ya feel better UV will not be on top of the tank but inline with the waters plumbing

Lol she's confusing the UV with the UV T5 bulbs I bought.

Ozone+UV keeps my water crystal clear.

I have never had luck with ozone. Last time I tried I nuked my polyps. UV will be a first for me. I am not sure what size I am looking at right now.

Well, it depends on the issue at hand. If you are treating parasites, a bunch of smaller ones with a slow flow would be better. If you are treating phytoplankton(green water) one larger one will suffice.

Edit: The 40w keeps me ich free. No green water ATM either.

I run an Emperor Aquatics 80w Smart HO UV. I have around 200-220g total water volume. You cannot put too big a UV on a tank.

Bigger is better. I be a cheap white boy, so that's why I have the 40w.

The problem is I don't know. I am using a lot of blue bulbs and my water look a tad green from the size. So ATM I am not sure if it's organically that carbon can remove or it it phyto. Hense I am turning my lights off for a bit. I am going to borrow a 36 watt uv from a buddy and see how it works. Carbon I don't have on hand so that will have to wait, I will try to replace my gfo tonight, but I wasnt aware that it gets used up so quickly.

Reason I asked is my lack of space. I can accomendate a few smaller uv better than a huge
one

Parasites are most efficiently killed using a slow flow through a UV. I guess this speculation more than anything, but I speculate that if you had multiple locations drawing water and sending it through a uv at a slow enough flow, it would be more efficient at killing parasites than one source feeding the uv.

Make sure you have a proper flow rate going through the unit or it's worthless. Rule of thumb I use is to have a unit large enough to turn the entire water volume once per hour. If I see any sign of parasites or other issues, I'm able to turn my entire water volume over three times an hour with the unit I run and can still kill ich.
Be wary of manufacturer claims in the UV arena. There seems to be very few that have realistic claims.
I learned the hard way thinking an Aqua UV 40w was enough for my tank.

But, if the parasite can reproduce faster than you flow rate can kill them...
When ich is in its water born stage you've got to get your entire water volume through that uv otherwise he will find a fish to burrow into.
