Growout on SC My Miami, Crazy Fox, Convict, and Flash

Why didn't ya just buy from me back in the day. Seems like the only coral doing well and growing is mine tsk tsk tsk * shakes head* lol. I'm glad to see everything is doing well mike. Thank you for holding onto my colony :)

all is well. 2 things for ya'll to "vote" on...

1. I'm planning on fragging the Crazy Fox tomorrow evening when i get back home. It has 6 eyes. 4 on one side and 2 on the other, so i was going to separate like that to keep it easy and make no mistakes... or continue to let it grow? Since it is at 6, it should not take long to get 2 more eyes (more eyes = faster growth), then everyone would have 2 eyes of it (and it might be easier for me to frag 2 eye pieces rather than 1)? LMK

2. I am heading to ATL tomorrow, so if you guys want to try the remaining convict, be my guest and I can bring it up to give you.. it hates me and just sits there looking pitiful :o)

I'm up for leaving the CF to grow a bit more and letting someone else give the convict a shot.

just was doing a before bed check and dose vi and vo, and saw that my silly damsel must have knocked over the CF colony sometime earlier!!!!

I immediately got it back where it was supposed to and it looks ok. some white on top in 3 relativity small places, but I think it will be fine. I'll keep everyone posted and lmk if u want me to txt u pics... i took one on my cell..

I have ALK straightend out at 8.46 currently and am seeing how much it goes down so I can try to keep it constant. So far it is down .3 dKH since the night of the 28th when i stopped dosing Baking Soda to get it up a bit..

but now freaking PH has been down a bit from my DT ph prob. Currently at 7.77ph (we did have a bunch of people over for my son's bday today, and crappy rainy weather lately..). Any suggestions to get it to 8.3? When I pug in my ph probe in my cal rx (that is just circulating and no co2) it says 8.3ph... grrrrrrrrrrrr!

Everything else in growout is good!

Have you tested the probe? If the probe is old it's probably going bad. If you had a bunch of people over I'd give it time and see what things look like. I wouldn't suggest dosing anything to bring it up if its usually around 8.3 because at some point it will bounce back up. I use soda ash for Alk which raises the pH. Baking soda is going to bring it down a little, but I wouldn't suggest using either for training to peg a certain pH. I wouldn't worry too much about the pH. 7.77 is still decent. Mine drops when I use my gas oven. Sometimes I see swings from 8.28 down to 7.8.</em> When its not too hot outside I'll kick open a door or some windows to bring it back up or to help maintain it.

i re-calibrated the DT prob maybe 4-5 months ago? The cal rx one has a loose connection on the PH probe (it goes on and off when I jiggle it), so I dont know how much to trust that.

I might try the cup of water test with one being inside and one outside to how much/if each one's PH raises to see if it is a co2 problem, etc..

I wouldn't trust that on a Calc reactor. What caused the initial drop in your pH?

I wouldn't worry about the tank pH so much as long as it not getting really low like 6.5 and craziness. Corals may have a harder time with calcification at a lower pH but, as long as you still have good O2 not much to worry about as long as your water parms are in check. The cup test is a good idea to see if its CO2 related though.

PICS!! :o) I changed the bulb a month or 2 back so everything still getting used to it which is why some are looking funky? Everything chugging along. The stupid convict is my least favorite because it refused to do ANYTHING &$%^... about aout of space on imageshack so started flickr but can't figure out how to post the pic with u guys able to see it without having to click it, but cannot :o( sorry..

Crazy Fox - u can see some white still from where it was tipped over, but looking MUCH better.

My Miami - stupid tiny frag plug caused me to touch it a bit with fingers getting it out of frag holder square, but 1.5 eyes I think :o)

lmk if anyone has the "correct" way to post pics offa flickr

quickie update:

*phosphates on last test were at .04, so a bit higher than norm, but still made the call to start feeding fauna pellets and powder 1 x a week to make sure i am not starving my system. things have been looking a little "see through" and pale brown. all other params check out except calcium was low at 370 for the first time ever..??

SC Flash is looking great! lot more color and eating right away
Crazy Fox " saw 2 eyes eaying within first 1 min!
SC Wolverine still going. seems a slow grower
SC MM still hanging on.. I think it is back to 2 eyes
SC Nuclear Mushroom. This is not doing that great? Not sure why, but a lot smaller and slightly shriveled. still ok color, but don't know what is up? I moved to a lower flow area incase that was it..
SC Convict still alive. Not doing much of anything :o)

Pics after holidays hopefully!! Thx! Might cut the CF in 1/2, roughly, and move to my Display tank just to have a plan B if anything happens in the frag tank and to start the divying up part here..

lol! I know sooooo busy.. everything is pretty much the same. The My Miami is not great, but eye is still pink/orange. I still have not been able to cut the crazy fox. I just had some of my red dragon RTN FROM THE MIDDLE?? and my tiny frag of SOTR Milli die too? So I dont want to mess with anything honestly til I get it straightened out.

Test results tonight:
Sal is 35ppt/1.027
Temp on apex is 79.7
Alk is 9.072 on hanna
Cal is 340 (low but cause a few to rtn?)
Mag is 1305 (")

Last water change was 20th of last month and am mixing some tonight for change tomorrow.

Since last full testing (15th of last month), Alk has dropped .134 since then, cal dropped 35, and mag dropped 45

Nothing really changed in last few days. I moved a big frogspawn 4 ", but it is on right side of a 6' tank and RD is in middle..

I took my cal reactor co2 off line 1-2 months ago due to a loose wire in PH probe, so i will prob get a new one tonight to be able to get it running pro again.

Installing new t5 lights above the DT as well since lights are a bit old.

None of the above necessarily impacts the growout (since they are in a tied in system in the basement under a 2 month old 250w phoenix.. but might!?!?!?! :o(

Any thoughts? I would love for someone who knows more than me to come out and retest/look at/advise me one the system if i am missing anything.

That calcium is pretty low. Yes, imbalances will cause SPS to rtn/stn. So will a number of things. Are you feeding them?
