GTBA questions

I am going to be picking up my GTBA from the lfs in Athens and was wondering is there anything special I should do while acclimating it? How long should I wait to feed it? What should I feed it? I have done some research it terms of care and it mentioned that I should I not have any powerheads going but is a koralia nano ok to keep or should I shut it off?

The danger with any powerhead is the squishy (aka GTBA) can squish itself into the intake and become jelly. As you've seen at pet stores they can climb up glass just fine, but my experience has been once they are established they don't move around a while lot. I keep a rio 600 in mine but I keep it up on the glass away from where the nem tends to be. It's a calculated risk.

Honestly, I don't find that BTAs really benefit all that much from feeding, especially in terms of growth. I have a dark morph RBTA in my home tank that I've never fed, yet it is massive, and splits quite regularly.

If your LFS has a rose bubble anemone for a fair price, that might be the better purchase as they are a bit more likely to stay put and not wander around the tank (and into powerheads). I've also found that RBTA are the hardiest anemones around.

Either way, enjoy the nem! Stick it where you want it in your tank and hope it stays.

To me, foot placement is the most important thing. They can stretch if they need more light or flow but will continue to move until they find a good foot-hold. Try to put its foot into or a hole or crevice where it is protected and you will increase your odds of it staying put.

I have three GTBA in my tank. They stay pretty much in the same place. I do nothing special to feed them. They catch what is floating in the tank and the nems help to feed them too. Sometimes I will drop a few pellets their way.

The importantbpart is make sure they are happy. If it moves around alot, need to find out why. I learned the hard way with my last RBTA. Now I have a GBTA that only moves around a little bit and not very far. Where are you getting it at?

I have found some post a few months back on powerhead mods that reduce the risk and did it with GBTA and worked great. one morning the lights came on and there he was on my maxi jet 1200 and moved back to the LR a few hrs later with no harm where he stayed for weeks.

Fwiw, my gbta doesn't move unless I do something stupid like forget to switch on the power heads after feeding. As another poster already suggested, it will move until it finds a happy spot, but will then anchor down until something changes.

You can cover your powerheads with stockings till it settles.

AO is great but a bit pricey. I found most of the same stuff at Petland on Atlanta Highway. The knowledge is just as good and the prices are ALOT cheaper. I got a GBTA from them for about $40 compared to nearly $80 at AO.
