After a quick scan one is opinions from other forums, mojo advocates it doesn't matter and melves reefs is basic law of average recommendation with out supporting theory? Huh?
I'm taxing on a plan getting ready to take off so In all honesty I didnt read it thoroughly but 2 I would almost down right disregard to the source and lack of supporting evidence.
Edit: If these are what qualifies yea ill drum some up tonight.

This is why I said it depends on who you talk to.. IMO a slow flow sump is a great idea, it only makes sense to me, but that can differ between each person. There is more than one way to skin a cat and if your way works then that's great. I am sure there have been plenty of successful tanks done both ways...
To the OP. Here's a picture of how I have my airline tune installed. Works like cheap and shuts my tank up like shoving a bottle in a babies mouth!!

Sorry for the bad picture. My MH turned off and I only had my LEDs on. If I removed that airline tube then my tank would growl like there's no tomorrow.

Hey, I was only responding to how "I" felt you were responding to me. If you were genuine in a discussion I'm all ears and would love to investigate and discuss the topic further.
Edit: For the record I think I read alot more into your posts than I should and for that I my appologies =) After reading through them I'm actually not sure what set me off..... there is some editing though?? oh well my appologies!
Y'all are looking at the wrong end 
That second last picture shows your drain pipe emptying below the water line in the sump. That's your problem. Back pressure from the end of the pipe being in the water, slows the flow of the water into the sump. As the water in the drain pipe accumulates, it gets heavier and eventually, gravity pushes it all out, and it "flushes". Then the process repeats.
1000 GPH is too strong. Those overflows can only handle about 600 gph at the most. So regardless of your opinion of how much flow the return should be, it *can't* handle more than 600 gph. So that's a risk too, that if your pump pushes more than the drain can handle, the tank proper will overflow.
Trim your drain pipe (better yet - get a sock holder) - a sock holder & filter sock will help muffle the sound, while allowing your drain to empty above the water line, eliminating the flushing, and it will also catch particulate.
