Half-Moon trigger

??

I assume youre talking about Sufflamen bursa. Usually they are not too pricy, but they are not common.

I am referring to Sufflamen chrysopterus, I read that they are rare in the trade, but I saw one at an lfs, and I need to see it is the above mentioned or the Sufflamen albicaudatus. They look very much alike but the difference in price is huge.

On wetweb they said the Sufflamen chrysopterus retails for $175.00, that was on 4/19/06.

Half moon trigger(Sufflamen chrysopterum) is different then a Bursa...I have a bursa in my reef tank. The half moons are rarely available online. Occasionally I have seen them at Live Aquaria. I believe there temperment is similar to Bursa's, Picasso's,etc.....

Here is a pic of a half moon trigger....http://www.fishbase.org/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=5842">http://www.fishbase.org/summary/SpeciesSummary.php?id=5842</a>

This pattern is completely different, not sure this one is right....[IMG]http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+2145+2209&aid=1804">http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?c=16+2145+2209&aid=1804</a>

so if I found Sufflamen chrysopterus for $45.00 would it be an awesome deal?

I cannot say just yet cos I might get it!

I am pretty sure that the picture linked at fishbase.com is the correct fish. Either way it would be a rather uncommon triggerfish and a good find IMO.

What other tank inhabitants do you plan? That will help you make up your mind...whether or not to buy one.

Currently I have a porc. puffer, blonde naso tang, blackback butterflyfish, and a sharptail eel. I have read that these genus of triggers are the most passive of all and are reef safe. This is a 125g.

And yes, I did see it in person, but did not pay too much attention to it til I got back to work and started to do some research, I will take a closer look at it tomorrow.

Sounds like you got a tank setup for triggers...post some pics if your buy it...

Anything oif the genus Sufflamen is gonna be comparable. Whether is be bursa or chrysopterus. Very mellow.

BTW, the pic in the second link is a juvenile, but same species.
