I finally got my live rock completely cycled and was able to aquascape my little 29 gal biocube. Everything looks great except my hammer coral does not want to open up and seems to be losing some tissue from the bottom of it. It is still in the same spot I had it before. I am just wondering if there is anything I can do?

Got a photo? If it's losing tissue there's likely something wrong with it, but a photo will help make that determination.

You can see the tissue receding on the right side.

I checked the salinity and it was 1.024. Before I put the live rock in
Nitrates were at 0. This was checked yesterday.

The water the live rock was in
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Nitrates 0

How long have you had the hammer and have you tried moving it to a different spot?

I have had it since October or so. When I move it, it exhibits similar behavior. I have tried moving a little this morning. I hope it opens when I get home this evening.

I have not checked calcium, alk, or phate as I do not have anything to test those parameters. I will try to do a water change and see if that helps.

When something is wrong in my tank the euphyllas(spelling) will be the first to let me know. Could be aleopathy. Do you run carbon or purigen? How new is it if you do?

I'd get it away from that Kenya Tree first thing. Also, a Lugol's Solution dip wouldn't hurt either. Helps Euphyllias lots of times, in case of brown jelly disease.
