Hmmmmm. Not sure about that. I agree that you rarely measure ammonia except during a cycle, but IMO, trites are a safety check that the bio filter is healthy. Comments?
I tend to keep a cheap ammonia test on hand, but I wouldnt bother springing for a trites tester. If you're diligent with your maintenance and avoid making rushed changes or modifications, you shouldnt need it once your system establishes.
