Has anybody dove at the Atlanta Aquarium or want to???

Yes, a little pricy, but... you will never see this verity of animals in one place...
BTW, I'm a SCUBA instructor if you need to get certified ;)

And for anyone interested: SCUBA certification makes a great gift. For my birthday a couple years ago, I asked my wife that I would love for her to get certified so we could dive together.

My daughter is super excited. We are waiting for the cage dive with the sharks. I am excited as well. I’ll update when we are done as I haven’t been in an open water dive in some time but used to love it.

So the experience was awesome. The sharks swim below and past you. They have you lined up on sides of the cage but you can look all around. The tiger sharks were inches from us, so magnificent. Thoroughly recommend. I wonder if our relationship with ga aquarium could help us get an ARC discount. Next I’m thinking of free dive in ocean adventure section.

Who wouldn't want to dive in that tank. I would love to swim with the Manta Rays. My MOST favorite fish of the sea.

I have heard nothing but good things about the dive experience but the price is pretty high. Anyone done it in the last year?

My ex-wife worked in dive-ops years ago, and got me the dive as a Christmas present. Granted, my experience was vastly different than probably 99.9% of “guests” due to a couple of factors. Obviously, my ex worked in dive ops and was in that tank multiple times a week. Second, I was a PADI MSDT with thousands of logged dives, hundreds of certs, and close to 20 years of diving at that time. Third, the only other person in the group with us, was a Divemaster who worked at an aquarium in Kentucky and was touring all the different aquariums she was able to dive in.

So, our group was extremely small and the least experienced person was a divemaster. We got to dive in the tank for almost an hour since there were no concerns about air consumption or inexperienced/disrespectful divers doing things they shouldn’t.

All that being said, I had a blast! It was my first time getting to dive with whale sharks or mantas, even though I’ve been diving since I was 12. You truly can’t appreciate the size of those creatures until you’re in the water with one swimming at you. One of the whale sharks was coming right at me and I realized it wasn’t going to change its course to not smack into me, so I exhaled and dropped down right as it passed over. Really fun experience and definitely worth doing at least once.

I've watched topside on a tour as the divers entered the water and it gave great perspective on how large the whale sharks are. I asked Santa if I have been good enough this year so we will see. :p
