I was looking to buy a skimmer for my 55G and I found this one from Current USA:
http://www.current-usa.com/recircskimmer.html">http://www.current-usa.com/recircskimmer.html</a>

online for under $125! The write up sounds almost too good for a recirculating skimmer.... any body out there have any experience with this skimmer? I found one negative review online but with no details so I don't know if there are problems with it or if it was a personal issue....

I may go ahead and order it just to see.

Looks like a good design. I know Fission makes the small Nano Skimmer and it was a piece of crap but this looks like a solid skimmer.

my suggestion is get one of these:

and you can think about recirc'ing yourself. Or ask someone to help you. or just dont recirc it at all. I had it on my 55 and it rocked! I now have it recirced on my 140 and its amazing! you might even be able to find it cheaper used. Like on RC or someplace like that.

Would rather have an Octopus skimmer for a couple bucks more. Looks a bit overly complicated and don't know what pump it ships with so can't make a definitive up or down on it. When I was researching skimmers this time last year, the Fission skimmers weren't highly regarded by those that used them.

Good points. I looked on RC too but didn'f find anything there on the Current one. My challenge is I'm limited in footprint size due to a small return area in the sump on the 55 so I was gong to look for something I could plumb out of the sump or hang on the sump. I think the Octopus was 10X9 footprint. I could move my modded Coralife to the 55 and use the Octopus on the frag tank...hmmm... need to think this through.

I have just purchased the Fission rated for systems up to 220 gallons. According to my manual I am in the breaking in period. A LFS gave me a great deal on it. He is using two on his large display tank. He recommended these skimmers, I did see them at work. So far not impressed, but will not pass judgment until after the "breaking in period".

Ramone,
Let me know what you think of the skimmer so far (can you expand on not impressed?).... if you don't want to post here maybe a PM would be useful.

Thanks,
Bob

you could get the octopus 100 and recirc it. That has a smaller footprint.

Lee, what pump did you use for your recirc mod? Did you post a DIY thread?
