I am cycling a Biocube 29 and have been using it for the past 7 days as instructed on the bottle...just thought id give it a whirl...i had a small spike in ammonia and in nitrites on day 2 and 4 respectively and now i have nothing but nitrates...is it possible that this stuff works...my fear is that im fooling myself and ill introduce a fish then kill it when a true cycle hits...its day 9 of the cycle right now

It's great stuff. When it first came out, I had a lady come into the shop who had bought a 55-g tank at big-box-pet-store and 40 fish - ON THE SAME DAY (freshwater, but still... ). Of course a week later when they were all gasping and their fins were clamped, she found me...

I told her to take 35 fish back... big-box-pet-store wouldn't take them. So I fixed her up with some Prime to bind the ammonia, do some water changes and cut back from feeding 3 times a day (!!!!) and gave her the free sample of Stability that the Seachem rep had left me - I figured she had nothing to lose by trying it.

In 2 weeks, her water was PERFECT. She did lose a few fish, probably due to the crazy ammonia spike that was happening when she got with me, and possibly some due to compatibility issues, but over 30 survived and the tank stabilized after that.

I do NOT recommend going too fast and overstocking like she did, but if Stability could help solve that problem quickly, it certainly can help establish a new tank when done properly.

ive only cycled one tank before...do the nitrates drop to zero on their own?...i thought that was basically just done with water changes after that

also could i introduce fish once the nitrates are 0 or should i wait til after the diatom bloom?...and is it mandatory to introduce the cleanup crew before the fish

ah ok thanks...so right now the only thing in the tank is the sand (was not live when introduced) and some rock that had been semi-live for a week and a half..i had a piece of shrimp in there for a day or so...theres no media in the tank yet..do i introduce the media before the diatom bloom..sorry for all the noob questions and thanks for the good advice

so nitrates are at 0 after 11 days with salinity...i forget what to do next..water change?

Really?

You ARE talking about nitrates and not nitrites, correct?

Are you carbon dosing?

Most likely he is...

My ammonia dropped to 0 after 1 day... after 5, my nitrates were nearly unreadable.

oh sorry i didnt mean salinty, i meant Seachem stability..ammonia, nitrites at 0 and nitrates basically at 0 they are 0.5...have very small amounts of diatoms blooming today..also started running some carbon today and put in 15 or so snails (eed to add more in the future)...so 20 percent water change now?

Edit: its been awhile since i cycled a tank..forget the next step lol
