Has this happened to you?

I recently decided to set up my tank again after 5 years. I had 2 Reef Octopus skimmers from 5 years ago that needed cleaning. One I added concentrated vinegar to and the other I didn’t. the next day both were completely cracked and falling apart. In all my years in the hobby I‘ve never heard of this happening. It almost looks like someone smashed them with a hammer. Money down the drain.

Ouch. I personally have never had any issue with vinegar but for the past 2 years have been using citric acid. Smart folks told me it was better and I'm nothing if not a lemming. Sorry this happened, that's a serious bummer.

Were they ever left out in the sun? I made that mistake one time and I guess the UV damaged the plastics and left micro cracks on my INT110.

The damage was nowhere near as bad as what you described though.
