i ordered a couple green gobies to put in my nano tank, but here's my dilemma, the nano has been up and running since christmas and i put "live sand" who only knows how old that was? my test kit that at this point i can't trust says ammo off the chart, nitrites off the chart, ph okay, but i have asternia stars in there doing fine snails doing fine and a scarlet hermit doing fine. added live rock with mushrooms, green buttons, yellow polyps all doing fine, do i put the fish in or put them in my 65 and never be able to catch them out. :shout:

gGet a trustworthy test kit or take your water to a LFS - they'll usually test it for you for free. The LFS's test kit might not be the best, but at least you'll have something to compare with your results.

Respectfully - why order fish, if the tank wasn't cycled?

If it's been running for over 2 months, it *should* be cycled, even if rock/sand needed to re-cure.

Best to invest in a good test kit.

Better take a cup of tank water too, although I'm sure the shopkeeper will be glad you brought the flask...

I know I would (and it has happened - more than once... **hic**)

Just make sure they test the water, before they "test" the contents of the flask.

I guess i was thinking starfish being so sensitive to water conditions they would not survive in high ammonia or high nitrite situations?

Asterinas are pretty resilient. After 2 months the tank *should* be cycled, but you'd best have your parameters tested to be sure, before you add any livestock to the tank.

My comment before, implied that this should have been checked prior to purchasing fish. If the tank isn't ready yet, the fish will suffer and/or die. Waste of life (and money).

What test kit are you using, and how old is it?
