I apologize. I was wrong about using 1/2" pipe. I used 1". The Bean Animal site has great resources for planning your design, including a diameter/rise/flow calculator. Yours will work great unless you get too creative.

Thank you for the update. Is your overflow [centered] across the backside of your aquarium? What thickness of material did you select to build the overflow box? Did you use plexi-glass or glass for the overflow box.

If at some time in the future you can get some good pictures of the overflow box [top view] and
[backside view of aquarium] and post them here; that would be great.
