Heater issues

I have only had my 13.5 gal. tank for about three weeks. I have a 50W heater for it. it overheats my tank to around 82-83, and if I
 
not sure why it cut out the rest. If I unplug it, it stays around 75. I even tried setting the heater on the lowest setting and it still goes up to 80. Solutions?
 
I like Finnex heaters, which are cheap. And good quality from my experience. I’ve been using them for at least 5 years

Unfortunately, JBJ heaters are not as cheap. Lol
 
I use Eheim Jager heaters, never had a failure.

For backup control, Ranco is rock solid.

You get what you pay for on these.
 
Rancos are so solid, I've never even heard of one failing although I'm sure they must be out there...

I'm using an inkbird on my coral QT tank ever since my beta cerebrus took a poop. It's been solid for me thus far.
 
I run Inkbird's with Finnex heaters and they work great. I always run two separate heaters on different circuits on each of my systems this time of year to help head off a potential disaster. A common complaint with the Inkbird's is that the heater doesn't kick on until it's 1° below the set temperature and then warms the water the full degree before kicking off. I knew this when I bought my first one but didn't really understand what it meant. I haven't noticed any negative effects and for the price, they can't be beat.
 
Hmmm... maybe I'm not paying attention to my controllers but isn't that how they all work?

You know, I'm not entirely sure. I had a Ranco and it was the same. When I was shopping for a replacement that was the biggest knock against Inkbird and I believe there are other's on the market that have a differential of .5° or something like that. I went with the Inkbird because they look better and they're quite a bit cheaper. FYI - the Ranco was great but it turns out they really don't like being submerged in saltwater. For a few days.

Hmmm... that would do it... Fortunately, all rancos go to controller heaven for all their good works. :angela: The cerebras go to an entirely different place... Yes my cerebra finally failed and really spectacularly.
 
There is a 25 watt Eheim Jagger heater that’s very reliable.
For a 13 gallon, if possible it’s safer to use two smaller heaters in two locations Tank/sump.
