I am new to ARC and I have been a active member on R2R for over six months now and in freshwater hobby for almost 21 years and since my older daughter has shown interest in saltwater and has absolutely fell in love with the Elegance Coral and Spotted Yellow Eye Kole Tang as it’s my favorite as well I have decided to start a 46 gallon that been running for about six months and I have been researching and learning for the past year now. I have now planned a new 180 gallon tank that’s probably going to be delivered in few weeks. I have build the stand, mixing station for AWC and will be using APEX as a life guard for this mixed reef that I plan to keep and maintain as a piece of ocean in my house. I have attached pictures from where I started with a standard stand with a canister filter and soon learned that for a reef tank with corals it’s best to have a sump and skimmer as the least basic equipment and started to plan my 180 right than with the build of the stand and sump and all equipment for the large tank. Hope you all like what I have done and chime in with any comments or questions.

Here is the tank cam of the current 46 gallons.
Hey Welcome! I messaged you on R2R about your doors and how they're held onto your stand. Looking great. Glad to have you on ARC.
yes I think I shared the pictures with you hope that helped.. thanks for the warm welcome..

Well these are IKEA kitchen doors and instead of using the European hinge I have used the magnets that can hold upto 90lbs from amazon and they stick to the washer that came with it nicely. See the link for the magnets I have used and the pictures how I am holding them up.

Wow man, welcome and you've got skills. Our very own @tonytran509 has a ton of freshwater experience and is a fairly new saltwater convert. I was the same way and I look forward to seeing your tank progress! Looks like you've done a lot of planning and prep, impressive!

I love these animals way too much to harm them in anyways. I recently lost my favorite fin friend that I had in QT for about 42 days and have learned what are someone of the to keep meds in my arsenal after losing her “spotted yellow eye Kole tang” ☹️ However thanks for the kind words and yes I am very very appreciative of this reefing community here on ARC and on R2R and even on IG and look forward sharing with you all my progress..

It is very gratifying to watch a new reefer who has done their homework put their new system together! You are on the road to success. Having had your feet wet in freshwater for so long, you already have a vast amount of knowledge. One of the main things to remember in reefing is nothing good happens fast in reefing. With your experience, you know there will be small set backs. Don't let them discourage you. Anytime you have questions, jump right in here and ask away. We have a group of the most helpful folks you can find in the hobby. Your build is looking top notch! Welcome to the community!:)

Thanks for the kind words and encouragement. After almost a year worth of reading and research I have learned one thing for sure about saltwater is that patience in the KEY TO SUCCESS IN THIS HOBBY for sure. It’s similar in freshwater as well but I definitely will keep in mind that I have a healthy family of reefers who are always around for a helping hand.. thanks once again..

Wowow - my kind of DIY'er, for sure!! Everything is looking great for sure. And I share/appreciate your thoughts on not wanting to hurt the livestock in any way.

Well done, and welcome to the Club!
