Hey

We started with a tiny frag and now we have 4 colonies. Not much problem since they are pretty but in the last 2 weeks it started growing between a colony of zoas. Is there anyway to control them from overtaking other corals in out tank? Are these corals aggressive and will sting other corals? Any suggestions will help. Thanks!

The only way to control them is to keep them isolated (i.e., on a rock, isolated on the sand) but even that isn't a guarantee as they can break off and pop up wherever, You just have to trim it back one way or another...

Thanks. I can definitely share but how do you usually frag these guys? I want to keep the rocks. The only way I can see these polyps fraged is by cutting the rock. Any other ideas?

They will not sting or hurt sps/lps. They will grow on bare rock areas where the light reaches. They can grow between zoas. Fragging them by cutting or removing the rock is one way to frag them. Another is to place a piece of rubble or a frag disc next to them and allow them to grow onto it. If they like your tank conditions they will grow and spread steadily. You can consider them a pest, but even a Montipora can kill them. Any encrusting coral can grow over them, so they should not smother anything in your tank.

They love my 300 gallon. I have a good population of them, but they are not a threat to any of my corals.

Thanks for your input. I will try to put a few pieces of rubble. As soon the coral transfer to those, I will PM those interested. Thanks for the information.

I would def be intrested as well.. I have similar thing going on with my yellow zoas they seem to be spreading twice as fast as everything else

I thought they looked really neat in Acroholic's tank... kinda like a blue carpet with all of the corals poking through. They grew right up to the bases of the SPS colonies, but didn't hurt them.

I have that with my teal palys... they ended up on a plug of another zoa... I haven't seen them in so long I don't remember what they were!
