In this hobby is always best to try and do it right the first time...research, research and then double check. We have all done those kind of things. At least this helps others learn.
Hope it works out for you.

You may want to put everything into some temporary holding tank so you can drain and scrape off the white stuff.
GE I is the safe stuff to use. That's what I used in putting my baffles in when I setup my sump. But I also let the final application cure for 3 or 4 days after it passed all my leak tests. That was over a year ago.
You can also use GE RTV108 which is the stuff that aquariums are assembled with and the stuff I use on all sumps I have built in the past and have had no complaints as of yet. It can be purchased at McMaster Carr and is around $10 a tube last time I purchased. I would not trust the stuff to be fully cured in 24 hours as it depends on how thick the bead is, temperature, etc. At the minimum I would wait 48 hours.....But this is only my opinion!
You live and learn. It was an emergency situation and was told bad info before I used the GE. Thankfully I have good friends in Larry and Rob, to help me out in a time of need. Thanks to the others that offered their help as well.
Changed about 98% f the water, and going to hook up sump tonight(gave it 72hr to cure). Had a friend let me borrow an over hang and had a Polly pad in one slot and carbon in the other for the last 48hr. Seems like all the green algae has died off when I changed the water the other day. Got over 50lb of rock and prob 30lb of sand that has stayed in there the whole time.
1 is my tank going to recycle with that big of water change?
2 should I go grab a cheap fish to see if tank is gtg, and/or cleaner crew guys?
3 when I hook sump up should I continue to use overflow box or is that overkill?
4 anything is to think about? Wanna be 1000% sure before I add all
My stuff back
In.
1. if the water was the same salinity, ph and temp... no
2. NO... test the water to make sure the tank is gtg
3. ? Doesnt make sense? You need the overflow box to send water to the sump dont you?
4. Take your time... let the tank do its thing before you put anything in there.
