These green seagrape-like things were attached to the the rocks that 2 soft corals specimens were affixed to. They are about the size of a medium size pearl.

Bubble algae. If you can get that rock out and break the bit of rock off with the bubbles on it, you should be alright.

Yep, definately valonia. I removed the rock and used a pocket knife to scrape it off, and never had it return. Just have to get all of the root too.

Yep, Valonia, aka sailor eyes, bubble algae.

Just pick it off carefully, try not to burst the bubbles. They have a pretty thick cell wall and where they are situated they should be fairly easy to pick off. No need to break rocks.

Emerald crabs are a good control for these - they eat 'em.

Ok...so it's a bad thing right?. I can easily chip-off. Thank you.

Interestingly, I have no other red or green slime algae/bacteria in my tank. I did have it, but that's gone after follwing the advice of some ofthe club members and sponsors. I had a small amount of hair algae, but that's gone too after using a soft toothbrush to remove and cut back a half-hour on the lighting. I guess algae and cockroaches are the only forms of life that are capable of surviving a nuclear holocaust.

LOL I just got through eradicating the hair algae out of a tank we've recently been hired to maintain... and that made room for the bubble algae. Spent an hour picking the stuff out of that tank today.

IMO of all the nuisance algae, it's the "prettiest" but it can become a big deal if it's unchecked. If you're able to pick them out without breaking the bubbles, you might not see it again since it's so localized.

any time I've seen it pop (pun intended) up in my tank, I've just reached in and gently pulled it off with my fingers... every time I've done it, it's come off completely entact..

My assumotion is not to release any contents which can potentialy germinate.
That or we may experience something like we saw in the movie Cocoon LOL

oh ok thanks because also i've had a few in the past and haven't seen them in awhile thank goodness

I had a huge problem with bubble algae when I was too lazy to remove one bubble and it popped on it's own... then I had around 100 but ended up having to manually remove all of them. Take it out while you still can!

There were several test done that "popping" the bubbles actually does NOT release any cells in the water column...
