Help! LED lights are too bright

Hi all,

I have a 29 gallon Biocube tank, and just ordered a 120W LED light. It's mounted over the tank, about 8-10 inches from the water. It's great, but the lights are so bright, it is killing my eyes! Not only that, it is lighting the entire room up. Any advice on how I can block some of this light? I'd like to keep both white and blue lights on to grow the coral, so I need to find a way to do this without sacrificing the effects. Help!

Build a canopy. The light spilling over will go away when you lower the light. Give it 3 or so weeks and then drop the lights down to about 4-5 inches and there will be little to no spill over.

Or

Hack up your biocube canopy and set the new LED in it.

Man, if you are having that bad an issue with LEDs, you would absolutely hate metal halides. They bleed so much more light than LEDs do.

Put optics on your LEDs. If they have no optics now, they're displacing 120 degrees or more. Put optics on them and you can get as low as 15 degrees ( but I wouldn't recommend that since its like a laser beam). I'd probably recommend 60 or 90 degree optics.

I paid a friend to make a canopy so I wouldn't see the bright light when I was laying down in my bed. Ilet me know if u want me to email you pics or want him to build you one.

You are absolutely right-I lowered mine just to see what it would look like and the light was MUCH better. Guess I will suck it up for a few weeks...
