convinced my other half the let me have the 3rd spare bedroom! Its only about 9''/9'' but is perfect for my sump room/office . im putting the display tank outside the the sump room wall in the living room and plumbing everything through the wall. ive got 2 darts so flow wont be an issue. oh and it will be plumbed in to a 70g sump.

sooo i just cant decide on what size tank to get!! for walking space in the living room i dont want to go over 48'' wide and no more than 36'' deep.

been thinking about a 150g cube 36''/36''/27'' or a typical 120g 48''/24''/24''.

going to have the tank custom made so really it can be what ever size i want. ive even been toying with the idea of a 180g 48''/36''/24''.

i guess it really comes down to what i want to put in the tank. i plan on it being an lps/softie only tank. as for fish the biggest guys going in will be a purple tang and a bluejaw. the rest will all be under 5'' fishes.

ive got more than enough rock to work with as well. 100+lbs of various base rock and nice looking live stuff. and i also have 200+lbs of BRS Reef saver rock ;). so i would love to have the 36" depth to work with so i guess i just cant decide to make it a "true cube" or add another foot on to the length... hmmmmmm HELP! lol

Will the fish in it need the extra swimming room?

(gonna have a TANG tank?)

i have the exact setup, display in living room and sump in the room on the other side of the wall. i have a 180, 5x24x30. well atleast i did have that setup i moved over the weekend. gotta re-do Everything!!

Personally I would do a 5 foot 150. 60x24x24 And light it with t-5. That is me personally.

How many T-5's do you need to penetrate 24" of water? (curious, .... I don't know)

I've got 4 T-5's on my 30L (4X39W - 36")

Simon Kruger runs 2 6 or 8 bulb fixtures on his 30in tall tank and has no problem with it. They are overdriven buy ice cap 660 but he grows sps everywhere!

he used to only have two 4 bulb tek fixtures over driven with icecap 660's and still grew all of that! if i remember correctly hes running 16 bulbs now on multiple 660's... gota love his tank!!!

yeah ive thought about a 5 or 6 foot tank too, but it just really doesnt need to go over 4'' for where its going..

and i will be running at least 8 over driven bulbs.. weather they are 48" or 36" will still be more than enough for LPS's

I knew it could be done.. but I also knew it wasn't something that a stock fixture would do..

Yeah, I remember Derek had like a 28" deep tank and had SPS on the bottom under his overdriven T5's.

44"x32"x21" Just think about these dims for a minute or two. 48"x34"x34" Stand and acsess to 3 sides of the stand.

hmm that would be pretty cool. only thing that would bother me is im going with t5's for sure and would bother me that the fixture was longer than the tank.

and i really think im kinda set on the 36" depth :p

btw chriss ill be getting with you soon once i finnnnallly decide what im doing. just got a new job and i realllyyy ready to start the new build

48"x36"x27" is just tall (good if it helps keep your hands out of the tank) But I would consider a little shorter, maybe 22".

it would definitely make it easier to adjust those corals that are knocked over by the snails/crabs..

The tank I recently had built was 60x36x26. I figured it had good swimming room, good growing room, and not so deep that I was either limited in light choices or arm length....

thats easy, length of the wall your putting it on x 36 deep x 24 to 30 high

whats the problem here?

the 120g 48x24x24 is going to be the cheapest way out .Its the perfect size tank for the average size house.I had the room to go with a 180 but didn't look right when I made a fake tank out of cardboard to see what size I wanted. I'm running 8t5's over mine over driven with icecap 660's. One of our sponsors are running a sale on tanks this month might want to call and check prices.
