Help with drain...

After searching for HOURS, I can't find it, I give.

It was sort of like an upside down durso for a sump, so you could submerge the tank's drain line under the water level in the sump, but not create the siphon.

Reason I need this is that my sump's water level is a bit high. Letting the drain water fall creates splashing, and subsequent creep which I despise.

Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Why not just build an upside down durso like you say and see how it works. Have the drain go into a 90 down into the water go across put a T have one piece of pipe go up above the surface and one down.

I'd like to hear some input--mine is kinda noisy itself; I know the durso's basically where the drain drains down, instead of putting an elbow (going down to sump), you put a "T"-and in the "T" you put a small piece of pipe, and then a cap with a hole drilled in it---the noise-I'm curious about, I'm sure someone else can chime in on that

(Hint, try searcing reverse durso...)

After working airplanes all day, sometimes my mental faculties are a bit "askewd"

Exactly what I was looking for, and now it makes sense, the "T" needs to be at the water level, not above it :) My wife will be happy now without all the gurgling going on ;)

****, doesn't work....my drain still starts a siphon after about 45 seconds of draining. The salt creep on/in the sump is driving me mad, and the noise is...well....crappy.

Do I drill the hole on the durso standpipe bigger ? (I'm talking the upper durso pipe in my overflow. Hole is ~3/8" now.

3/8 hole seems to big, all mine have been small "about the diameter of pencil lead" maybe a hair bigger. Take some pics so i can get a better understanding of whats happening. Also in order to cut down on splashing inside the sump use a filter sock to mute the sound.

what's making the noise? the durso or the water cascading down into the sump?

I enlarged the hole, siphoning has gone away! Now I just need to get off my lazy butt and make that reverse durso to quiet down the sump side :)

Hooray, shortly I'll put some light on it, and add some Chromis or something else.

I tossed a few snails in there about a week ago, all are still doing well. I know I need to test the water, but I suppose the snails doing ok isn't a bad indication :)
