Im having a problem with my overflow. Its loud and annoying and I dont really know a good way to remedy this. Here is a video of my setup right now. Can anyone suggest an effective way to quiet this down?

Its just a "breather" tube I guess you would call it. Thats not whats making the noise though. The drain inside the tank is creating a midgit whirlpool inside the fitting on the very top that is causing the noise. At least thats what it seems like.

It wouldn't be pretty but I don't think you'd need an overflow box inside the tank for a durso. The above poster is correct in the noise is coming for the vortex created by the surface skimmer. If you want to forgo the surface skimming, just turn the intake 90 degrees to where it is now and the sound would go away.

Drill a 1/4" hole on top of the mesh on your drain pipe I side the tank and slide a 1/4" airline tube down the pipe about 2-3" and about an inch on the top end. That way your drain will be able to breath better and that should help help your drain. I had a big problem with my overflow making the same noise. I did that and the sound went away completely. At least with this you don't have to change anything. And If it doesn't work. You'll just have to remove the airline tubing.

This one seems to have done the trick. My overflow is 100% silent. Not one sound. I just had to toy around with the valve on the return pump to get the right height for the water level.
