I just bought a used skimmer. I have NO clue how to set it up. It is an oceanic plus model 4. I don't have a manual.
Currently I don't have a sump, but I want to install one. My tank isn't drilled so I will have to just run the tubing out of the tank and down the back and then up again.
Can someone give me step by step (sumps and skimmers for dummies) on how to do this. I also want a fuge tank in the sump. I don't know what all I need to have. How many pumps, etc.
Also the skimmer came in a big box with a lot of different parts, and plumbing things. I know all of it doesn't go to the skimmer, but I don't know exactly what all does. So can someone let me know what all pieces the skimmer is supposed to have and how to set it up please.

Did the skimmer come with a pump? If so, which one? The Oceanic 4 is an in sump venturi skimmer that is relatively easy to setup. There should be a grey tube coming out of the skimmer which has a nipple (this is the venturi). Just attach the pump to the open end of this tube, attach some air line tubing to the venturi, set it in your sump and plug it in. Pics of what you got would help to see if you have everything you need.

OK Here is a pic of the whole thing and then a close up of the pump attached to it. Sorry they are blurry My camera sucks. Is the airline supposed to be set out of the water? How do I adjust the flow?

Looks like you have everything you need! You can adjust the amount of air using a clamp or a ball valve that you can pick up in the drip irrigation section of HD or Lowes.

Is the air hose supposed to be outside the water or in it? Also what am I looking for when I adjust it? Sorry I know I sound totally clueless, but.. I AM lol

Can the output be adjusted in that skimmer, meaning can you restrict the water leaving the skimmer body to raise the level inside the skimmer?

I had that same skimmer on my first tank !

The tubing goes from the skimmer and kind of hangs out of your sump in the air, it will suck air in to give you bubbles. The flow can be adjusted if you plumb it right mine was hard plumbed and had a ball valve not sure i would advise that for you right now as it makes it kind of complex. Looking at what you have you will be running it sitting in sump off that pump.

Hope that helps

We still have one of those in service on a tank we maintain. We replaced the pump with a Mag 7 a few years ago, but it still works decently.

Yes the open end of the airline needs to be out of the water. That's how it draws air into the riser to mix with the water, to create the foam to fractionate.

Thanks so much everyone for your help. As soon as I figure out how to get the Sump set up, I will get this done and let you know how it turns out. On a different note, the tanks is starting to look so pretty now!!
