Help with persistent cyano madness

thanks

the color spectrum of blue does. quite noticeably.
not sure i would turn the lights down though.

I have been out of town for a month, just returned last night, and here is how bad my cyano is. I have some serious clean up to do. My wife kept the fish a live and all of the corals actually look good but man, I have a ton of cyano and the chaeto in my fug is overflowing.

Thanks. I need to figure out the cyano issue. When i am home and do my regular husbandry it isn't an issue but when i leave. ..boom.

I'm starting to think this might be Dino ....

Especially when I compare to this thread http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92678">http://www.atlantareefclub.org/forums/showthread.php?t=92678</a>

Water changes, increased flow etc just make it worse.

This grows in about 8 hours and yes that's a poor coral covered in it.

thanks

Please post all of your parameters - clearly something is amiss.

Do you vacuum your substrate?

Jenn

I vacuum off the dirt but I don't vacuum the substrate if I can avoid it, my Goby looks after it - although I think he handed in his resignation on this one ...

pH 8.3
Alk 11
Salinity 0.025
Temp 79
Nitrates 0 (haha well that's the color I choose to see)
Ammonia 0
Nitrites 0
Phosphates 0

Right now I have the skimmer on (Bubble Mag Nac 7), Canister with Bio Media, Carbon, Phoban, it's a large sump with dual socks and about a 10G Fuge full of macro. Lights are dual Radeon's 30XR at 50%, 15.5K. Total water about 90G.

I don't think so. I actually think that she under feeds. I had a half bag of rods and mysis when i left and after a month, when I got back, i still had some rods left. I am not sure what happens but i do bi-weekly water changes, filter sock changes every 3 days, plus change the phosban, where she feeds, keeps water in the ato reservoir, and changed the socks maybe once.

I'm guessing that was 1.025 on the specific gravity, right?

I recommend vacuuming the substrate. The goby might sift it but he, and everything else, POOPS. That translates into nutrients and just because you aren't seeing nitrate in the water column, they are there - they are being bound up by the cyano.

Jenn

Hey Jenn, yeah that was supposed to be 1.025.

I vacuumed it all last night, I also floated a ton of polyfilter media in the water while cleaning which caught a ton of displaced cyano and made it easy to remove. Will just keep cleaning and hope for the best :)
