I got this free from a member who is hoping I can revive it. Any ideas on what steps to take?

Yeah it looks fine everwhere....that part may have not have been getting much light in it's last residence....I don't think I'd worry about it to much....it will most likely grow back over it....did you happen to dip the coral before putting in your tank though?
 
Negative, I did not. I've never dipped corals, but am not opposed to starting to. Just don't know the procedure/products.
 
CoralRX is a good one.....Interceptor is also....have you checked for possible parasites on there?...(red bugs/blackbugs)..usually you just put a amount per instructions depending on product in with some tank water....swish it around for a few seconds....then dip it in some clean salt water....then place in the tank....It looks ok from the pic....just shading itself....
