Help!

prob. bristleworms; they are beneficial for the most part; they eat excess fish food/poop; they will also eat a dead fish/animal to help prevent a tank crash!

looks nice.
maybe this will give you some ideas
here is mine:

some of that green hair algae is gone as the urchin and astrea snails seem to love it.

I've moved some of the rocks and corals around since this pic a few weeks ago.

might be peanut worms, look at this, might be able to help you in identifying it.

thats half the fun to me, I think its cool. until it hurts. my fire shrimp seems to think that every time i put my hand in the tank it must clean me. its really cool though

i think they look closest to the peanut worms but i dunno .. is there anything i can dose the aquarium with to just kill off the aptasia? those shrimp will eat it off the lil coral frags? i see it on 2 of them like in the middle and the corals near it are closed.. what if it just keeps coming back

no nothing to dose. yea, the shrimp should eat it w/out harming the corals. but like eric said shrimp are hit and miss type of deal. if it keeps coming back then its going to be a long battle i guess, but i can't speak fro experience on it and hopefully i wont have too.

it's really simple-just get the rock out and boil it--rinse off well and put back into tank; 'seed' it with someone's established piece of LR or live sand--you might even want to rinse your sand out with fresh water while you're at it--you'll be pest free at this point.

this blows! i spent so much money today on new sand and water and crap and im seeing all these bad things coming out of this rock.. im seeing the lil red flat worms now in the back on the sand what a downer :-(

dude-don't be so upset! we've all I'm sure wasted a bunch of $$$ at some point in this hobby for being a noobie! no biggie-the LR and LS will come back-just give it time-and will actually be better b/c you will KNOW it doesnt' have any parasites! Just refill with RODI saltwater-will help out tremendously on nuisance algae growth-!

....and FWIW the LR isn't too 'live' there is little if no corraline algae growth on it-so you're not losing much!

lol so ive taken all the rock out but im scared that in the 6 hours its been running who knows what has crawled down into my new sand.. if its only those red worms i only saw one of and removed do u think i may be ok? i dont really have the equipment to remove this sand and also dont have anywhere to house the few corals altho if they have aptasia they arent worth much to me.. it shot down into the one i tried to remove it from got it off the other with a razorblade

yeah-I'd prob. rinse the sand out w/ freshwater; just take a cup and take the sand out; it'd been nice if you'd known and done this before setting it back up, but we live and learn-lol;

im gonna have to wait on the sand thing cuz i dont have any salt mix just a 4 gallon jug of premixed stuff left cuz i bought 20 gallons :-( this is all my moms fault for buying me a tank as a gift when i hadnt finished all my research o well :-p live and learn and at least its at the beginning not years down the road ruining and established tank.

yup, i been through that stage too, but it wasn't bad after i refocused and took a look at everything and started over then i was good to go. i got to a point where i didnt want to deal with it so i let it run and all i did was top off with water then i was ok.

you'll be alright

i was lookin through that harmul hitchhikers thing and i think the worm i saw was a bristle worm definatly not a flat worm.. are there other types of reddish worms that are bad? im going to just get some new rock i think .. these arent the look i wanted anyway so why go through the work of scraping off crud and boiling and all that jazz.. does anyone want some compromised rock lol

you don't have to take your tank down or the rock out . You will probably loose your corals if you do. Your tank will definitly cycle again with an ammonia spike' killing your corals!!!!! The worms are beneficial and will come back even if you do the boiling cooking etc. The aptasia will more than likely come in on future corals and frags. The peppermint shrimp will probably eat them since you are not feeding fish. They like to eat uneaten fish food instead of the aptasia Give the shrimp a few days to do there job if they don't eat them then use the joe's juice it works. trust me I have had aptasia all over my 400 gallon system and was able to rid myself of them. If they reappear which they will if you keep a tank for any length of time hit them with the joe's juice right away before they reach mature sizes and then multiply.

ive definatly calmed down about the things i thought were major.. thanks for all the advice guys.. im sure ill be freaking out about something else real soon and asking for more advice :-p

thats the main thing, just calm down.

i freak out all the time, believe me, i am not so paranoid that when something happens that i dont know about it i freak out and i come here looking for advice. its been great too.

actually something recent happened, was looking at my tank one night and saw these snail/slug looking like creature and it was maybe a 1/4" long. turns out it was nothing scary, then after i made a move of the tank from savannah, i saw it again, plus like 3 more, all of them were like about a half inch long. I was in total amazement.

the moral of the story is, when in doubt, ask ARC members, they are awesome with answers.
