I had a big nice piece of red/orange sponge on a piece of LR that ive had for months. Lately all the hermit crabs have started eating it and its almost gone. Why would they start doing this all of a sudden? Is the sponge dead, and should i pull the rest off?

anyone?

Hermit crabs are opportunistic predators. They will eat the easiest thing they can get their claws on. Maybe they just ran out of tastier things and are now targeting a immobile invert.
