So last night I watched as my scarlet hermit murdered one of my nassarius snails. I definitely tried to intervene and stop the scarlet, i separated the two and even pushed the snail into the sand a little to try and protect him, but the hermit was very persistent so I figured it was a lost cause. Pretty sure he just really wanted a new shell, lol.
What was pretty funny to me is that about halfway through the process, two of the other nassarius came over and bulldozed over the hermit and looked as if they were protecting the victim, but I am pretty sure that they just picked up the smell of an easy meal.
Oh well, circle of life I suppose, lol.

I had a few conch snails and they did the same thing. They kill the conch for their shells.

Yeah my hermits have killed both nassarius and cerith snails. I feed them so I assume it was for the shell. You can get a pack of empty shells at craft supply stores so that they can find new/bigger homes without murder.

Yea I have shells in there for the smaller blue legs but I thought the scarlet was about as big as he was going to get.

I saved a nassarius from an emerald crab, twice. Gave away the emerald. As far as I know my hermits have been model citizens. I saw one charging towards a nerite that had fallen on its back but once I flipped it over it ignored it.

Just added a CUC last week though. Looking on the glass Sunday night I counted over a hundred dwarf cerith's on the glass alone. Figure a bunch will die one way or another. At least three got launched through my MP10. No idea if the survived but the shells were intact.
