Which hermit crabs do you all have in your tank and why?

I used to keep hermit crabs in my nano, but then got tired of them killing the snails for their shells...

Anywho...i'm thinking of adding a few back in the tank because they did a good job of keeping the sandbed clean.

Being a nano, i don't have much in the tank - a banded shrimp, Pseudochromis, condy anemone and clown...the rest is just softies and one small Birdsnest.

lol i got blue leg and red legs but i also added a lot (20lbs of shell sand there are tons of shells) so they havent killed any snails at all for there shells lol.

blue legs. They're small and they stay small. They're really good at what they do. I have a few on the way..

I have some but once they die out I won't be replacing them. I have some electric blue legs, a few scarlets. I do however like emerald crabs and have a few and really think they are cool.

I have 1 claw hermits because of the bright orange color and there 1 claw is too big to kill a snail, blue legs because they are so small and can get to really tight spots. A few reds because I cant catch all of them YET and a few scarletts because they are sand sifters.

Did they come with only 1 claw? Do you sell them?

Oh, and I have blue legs, scarlets, and tons of spare shells behind the rocks. How do you think crabs get their shells in nature? I don't mind replacing a few snails once in a while.

Be careful about having too many empty shells. They're one of the highest contributers of phosphates in an aquarium.

Hmm, didn't know that. They're all purple'd up now and I call it the used car lot. Funny to watch a crab walk up to a pile of shells and check them all out before trading up.

I do sell them and the other claw is tiny. They are from the keys but pretty hard to find.
